About the Position

St Margaret Mary’s School, Croydon, a community-focused, multicultural school with approx 350 students from Reception to Year 6, plus a preschool, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented finance professional to oversee and manage its financial operations. This part-time position offers 30–35 hours per week across 43–45 weeks per year, providing an excellent opportunity to achieve a strong worklife balance.
Responsibilities
Provide financial advice, reports, and planning support to school leadership
Lead financial systems, budgets, and compliance processes
Oversee accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, BAS, GST & FBT returns
Manage payroll functions, salary packaging, and entitlements
Prepare annual financial statements and support external audits
Administer school fees, payment plans, and debt collection
Support government funding submissions and grant administration
Oversee the maintenance of buildings, grounds and facilities
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have accounting qualifications and strong experience in financial management, ideally in an education setting. You will have a good understanding of financial legislation, taxation, and payroll, and be confident in managing complex financial tasks while supporting both daily operations and longer-term strategic objectives.
Proficient in finance/payroll systems and advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
Ability to provide clear and practical financial insights to support school leaders.
Well-developed interpersonal, organisational, and time management skills.
Trusted to maintain confidentiality, support staff in emergencies, and act with accountability.
Current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Certification in Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect in Education and Care Settings (or willing to obtain)
Current First Aid qualification (or willing to obtain)
